

That last one obviously only works in Garrys Mod, however the other commands all (seem to) work perfectly fine in other source games.

So first of all, we're going to need the commands that will actually enable multi-threading support in the source engine. This does not work for improving the performance of a source dedicated server! It is purely client side only! If you have inadequate cooling, please be careful. Stressing all threads will cause the CPU to generate more heat than if it were only stressing one. As you may have guessed, that usually results in better framerates in games as well. This allows each thread within the processor to work together on a single program, allowing them to process things faster. Multithreading, put very simply, allows a program to use at least two or more of the available threads in your computers central processing unit(AKA processor). If you are a tech-savvy person, or otherwise don't care about what it is and would rather just get on with it, you can skip this next paragraph. If you're not a tech-savvy person and you don't know what multithreading is, there's a rundown below. Especially if you're on a chip with many cores, such as the Intel i5/i7 series, AMD FX 4xxx/6xxx/8xxx series, or AMD's new Ryzen series.

With just a few commands, you can force Garry's Mod (as well as any source engine game) to use all of your available threads, which will usually boost your framerates.

Everyone is always saying the source engine is only ever able to use a single thread, even with multi-threaded rendering enabled in the options.
